JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

Title: Field Maintenance Worker

Pay: $12.00-$20.00 Per Hour Depending on Experience

Two positions available.

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Under general supervision, the Field Maintenance Workers will prepare and maintain the three softball complexes for league and tournament games.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Field Maintenance Workers work under the supervision of the Executive Director and the Field Maintenance Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Operate a variety of field maintenance equipment including but not limited to: lawn mowers, weed trimmers, tractor, field grooming tools, rock picker, and others.

Inspect equipment for safe and proper operations; maintain equipment as needed, replacing fuel, fluids, and oil.

Mow, rake, sweep, blow, and pick up clippings, paper, and trash from athletic fields and complex.

Prepare the fields which may include dragging the infield, chalking or painting the lines, watering the fields, setting bases, and applying infill to turf field low spots.

Field maintenance will include filling infield holes, adding clay to infield when necessary, repairing batter’s boxes, and inspecting the ball fields for proper safety.

Field Maintenance Workers will be responsible for cleaning the permanent fixture restrooms at both the Cartee and Albrecht complexes.

Utilize independent judgement in performing grounds maintenance activities and be able to understand and follow written and oral directions.

Perform other duties as requested or required.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Prefer applicants to be 18 years of age or older.

Applicant must have a valid Alaska Driver’s license.

Possess the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities relative to the position.

Have general knowledge and skills in preparing softball fields; ability to work harmoniously and cooperatively with other employees and the public.

Basic grounds maintenance procedures including mowing, edging, raking, and weeding. Methods, equipment and materials used in grounds keeping work. Utilize safe work procedures in operation of hand and power tools.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance: stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is also required to use feet, ankles, legs, hands, and arms to operate necessary equipment.

The employee must be able to perform moderate to heavy physical work with prolonged standing and walking for extended periods of time, walking over rough or uneven surfaces, stretching, bending, and pushing, stooping, climbing, crouching, crawling, moving, lifting, and carrying loads weighing between 50-95 pounds.

The employee will be exposed to occasional to frequent exposure to inclement weather conditions while performing work.
