Youth Program Director – Job Description

 

Summary: Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Anchorage Sports Youth Program Director (YD) is responsible for ensuring the operational success of all youth sports programs offered through our organization. The YD is responsible for general planning and operation of youth program leagues and tournaments, marketing and advertising, associated office duties, recruitment of coaches, and maintaining physical inventories. This position requires general knowledge of youth sports leagues and tournaments, with a specific focus on fastpitch softball and volleyball. Schedule can be flexible depending on the needs of the individual. Hours will be variable. Expect to average 20 hours per week, with a larger workload when in-season and a smaller workload when out-of-season.  The busiest time will be January-July.


Salary: $20,000-$25,000 DOE / Non-exempt; salary 

 

Key Attributes: Passionate about youth athletics, knowledge of fastpitch softball and volleyball, familiarity with athletics management, strong communication skills, strong organizational skills.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Plan and coordinate youth program leagues, tournaments, and special events, including but not limited to the following tasks:
  • Promote and advertise programs
  • Oversee program registration
  • Schedule leagues, tournaments, special events
  • Update league and tournament results
  • Order, maintain, and inventory equipment/uniforms/supplies
  • Coordinate facility contracts and rentals
  • Order league and tournament awards
  • Coordinate with and schedule officials for league games and tournaments
  • Collaborate with seasonal staff to ensure facilities are properly maintained
  • Submit program reports at the end of each season to the ED
  • Recruit and hire coaches for youth programs under the supervision of the Executive Director
  • Assist coaching staff with the recruitment of players as needed
  • Assist with the creation of youth program budgets under the supervision of the Executive Director
  • Coordinate with teams and coaches to ensure all youth-specific requirements are being met
  • Develop training protocols for new coaches; ensure coaches have necessary certifications
  • Provide administrative support for coaches and programs as needed
  • Continue to develop the scope of youth programs, to include the introduction of new programs when appropriate
  • Be the primary contact with MoA, ASD, and other agencies as related to youth programs
  • Ensure requirements for youth programs are being met as dictated by ASD policies, USA Softball policies, USA Volleyball policies, etc.
  • Evaluate youth programs and monitor performance of related staff to ensure efficient functioning
  • Communicate with coaches, players, and parents regarding youth programs

 

Website, Social Media, and Newsletter Support

  • Coordinate with local media and share any important youth program information
  • Post news articles to website, share on social media, and email to appropriate membership
  • Update website and social media as directed
  • Implement social media advertising and communication regarding youth programs

Recommended Experience: Previous experience working in a fast-paced office environment. Previous experience working in the customer service industry. Previous experience with nonprofit organizations and/or youth athletics programs. Previous experience working as a coach, official, or with youth athletics in another capacity. Central to success is a person who is collaborative and flexible in his or her approach to work, has a desire to provide excellent service, and is open to improving skills to support our mission.
