General Information
In collaboration with the Anchorage School District (ASD) and American Legion Baseball (ALB), the Anchorage Sports Association (ASA) is proud to announce that fastpitch softball and baseball will be offered to all Middle School students in Anchorage in the spring.
This program will be administered by ASA and ALB as an outsourced ASD sport. Student-athletes must follow all rules associated with participation in middle school activities, but the registration, fee collection, and scheduling will be done by ASA/ALB. Fastpitch softball will go through ASA and baseball will go through ALB.
Volunteer Coaches Needed
In order for this program to be a success, we will need enthusiastic coaches to commit to running our teams!
Interested coaches should be:
- Experienced working with middle school students.
- Enthusiastic for teaching team sports to kids, not just the skills of fastpitch but also the tenants of teamwork and leadership.
- Familiar with the basic rules and concepts of fastpitch softball.
- Available for practice times after school.
- Available on Saturdays in April and May for games.
- Effective communicators in working with ASA and ASD.
- Able to pass a background check through USA Softball.

Anchorage Sports will provide the necessary equipment for teams, as well as provide support for structuring team practice and teaching skills.

Anticipated Schedule & Locations
Practices will take place after school. All practices will take place at the teams' school.
Games will be played Saturdays on April 27, May 4, and May 18. Teams will participate in a total of 6 games.
Games will be held at the Chuck Albrecht Softball Complex (MLK Drive/Elmore).

Fees
A $110 activity fee per registered athlete is required unless:
- a student applies for and receives a fee waiver based on hardship during the registration process. Fee waiver eligibility will be confirmed by ASD administration.
Raffle Opportunity
- To help any interested student with their fees, there will be raffle tickets available to supplement fees. Details TBD.
Online payment
- Online payment of fees will be required with registration.
- Fee Waiver applicants will not owe the fee at registration pending the status of their application.
- Players who sell raffle tickets prior to registration will be given a discount code to reduce their fees; players who sell raffle tickets after registration will be reimbursed.
Eligibility
Middle school students may participate in interscholastic and intramural athletics and a variety of academic and recreational activities. Students who would like to participate in interscholastic and intramural sports must:
- be enrolled as a full-time student in the Anchorage School District (four or more classes)
- complete the online registration form
- have a current sports physical on file with the school; this exam is good for eighteen (18) months from date of issue
In order to practice or play in a game, a student must be in attendance at school a minimum of one-half day, except for extenuating circumstances (such as a school field trip) approved by an administrator.
How to Register
When registering to participate in fastpitch softball please be prepared to fill out the following forms:
- Health Exam form. A copy signed by a doctor must be uploaded with your registration. Health exams are good for 18 months and must be current through the season of the sport.
- Fee Waiver form if requesting a waiver
- Middle School Activity Participation.
All of the above forms will be incorporated into the online registration, available on our website in January.
