How will the new mandates affect the club volleyball season?

Update: 1/19/2021

ASD says they are working through permit requests this week, so we should have updated practice schedules soon! We will return to 2x week practices in February and the season will now go through April.

Tournaments on January 30 and February 6 have been postponed because local mandates have not been lifted. First tourneys are now scheduled for February 13 and 20, pending local mandates.

We've seen incredible improvement in all our teams -- competing is important and we can't wait to get to a tournament, but practice is really where the hard work is put in and the magic happens! Keep working hard everyone!

UPDATE: 1/4/2021

The tournaments scheduled for January 16/17 and 23/24 have been postponed. The Region is planning to have our first tournaments on January 30 and February 6. Age groups for each weekend will be announced shortly. (All of this, of course, is pending any new/remaining health mandates.)

Practices: Because the season will be extended to April, we will be practicing once a week in January, and then resume our two practices a week beginning in February. The season will end after the final tournaments in late April. (For those new to our club, we would typically have gym times booked for practice months in advance; but because of Covid, ASD has changed their rental procedures and the Dome is limiting the number of people to the endzone where we practice to only 15 people; this has caused unusual delays in securing gyms for our practices.)

Travel Teams: We have decided to attend the Far Westerns Qualifier in Reno, NV! Tournament dates are April 23-25. We will have more information soon, including cost and fundraising.

We appreciate your continued patience and flexibility during this time.  Thank you!

How does EO14v3 affect club volleyball?

On Friday, November 6, the Municipality of Anchorage announced new Covid-19 mandates to help curb the spread of the virus in the city. Under that mandate EO14v3, the city announced new restrictions on indoor gathering sizes and mask-wearing during athletic activity.

Although the new mandate limits indoor gathering sizes to 15 people, there is an exception for sports and athletic activities, which will allow us to continue with our program as planned. Under the new guidelines, all participants, coaches, and officials are required to wear a mask at all times. This is something we as a club were already doing, so this does not affect us too much. Please help us by ensuring masks are brought to practices and are cleaned after each practice.

The other stipulation is that no spectators are allowed in the gym; only those actively participating in the activity are allowed. This means parents will not be allowed to be in the gym during practice. We typically do not have a rule against this, as we welcome parents to come observe and see what our practices are like, but to comply with the mandate we ask that once your athlete is in the gym, you remain in the hallways or return to your vehicle.

For additional details on EO14v3 and athletic activity, please see "Attachment B" posted below.

How does this affect the Alaska Region and upcoming tournaments?

EO14v3 also puts limitations on teams from outside the municipality participating in athletic activities in Anchorage. Since we typically compete against other teams outside of Anchorage, the Alaska Region is holding a meeting on Wednesday, November 11, to discuss this potential issue and how to move forward.

If athletic activity is canceled due to additional mandates, will we receive a refund?

We will refund club fees on a prorated basis depending on the number of practices and tournaments we have had, and if jerseys, warm-ups, and hoodies have been ordered. Once those costs are paid, we will issue partial refunds.
